This Is The One Month A Year That We Take Off In Order To Look At Rose Catalogues And Engage In Rose Fantasy



FEBRUARY '07

"WASATCH WILDFLOWERS" - Featuring Dr. Paul Zuckerman
Following the spring snow melt on the mountain slopes and meadows of the central Wasatch range, there is a magnificent eruption of brilliant colors from the native plants and flowers, and this lecture is a sample of the most prevalent and flambouyant wildflowers that blanket these valleys.

MARCH '07

(Event 1) PRUNING SHRUB ROSES AND THE GLORY OF MOTTISFONT ABBEY - Featuring David Stone
This will be a video presentation from David Stone's lecture at Ashdown Roses in the fall of 2006. David Stone is the Head Gardener at Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire, England. Mottisfont has one of the greatest rose gardens in the world with a long history of preserving rose varieties that are no longer in commerce. After extensive research, they have learned to prune their shrub roses differently in England, tending to prune less hard than we have done in the usa in the past. This type of pruning results in more blooming.

(Event 2) "UTAH FLOWER AND LANDSCAPE SHOW" - At The South Towne Expo Center
The Utah Rose Society will have a booth at this annual garden event and show. Volunteers from the society will be manning the booth during the entire show in order to answer question about roses and the Utah Rose Society and the American Rose Society. We will be also selling rose bushes, books and fertilizer. Come Join Us.

THE BIG, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL ROSE AUCTION!!! - With Auctioneer Bob Bauer
Bring some money or your checkbook, and prepare to buy a bunch of rose bushes and other great stuff for the upcoming season! Join your auctioneering smart alec Bob Bauer in spending a bit more money than you really wanted to to get some new choice juicy roses. This is an event that is really fun, and you can go home with more roses. What's not to like about that? The more stuff you bring to donate to the aution, the better off the society becomes. So dust off your money and get ready to spend some of it! Spend! Spend! Spend! It's fun! When in the heat of 'Auction Fever', you never know what you'll end up with.

This year features 60 Potted Roses from Chamblees roses in Texas, a gaggle of potted mini roses, bare root roses from Weeks roses as well and miscellaneous rose gear, etc. will all be up for Auction. Please bring something to donate to the auction. Got a left over bag of fertilizer? A couple of potted roses? A Rose Book? A new extra pair of gloves? Bring it. All proceeds benefit The Utah Rose Society.



MAY '07

ROSE SHOW PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Jerry Yoneda
This is the event where you can learn what to do with your garden blooms in order to show them and win prizes at the annual Utah Rose Show. Featuring the in depth knowledge of Jerry Yoneda. Learn what the judges are looking for, and the big do's and don'ts on preparing your blooms for judging. Also you will be able to pick up tags for your roses in advance of the show at this meeting.

JUNE '07 The BIG Rose Month! -- With Three Great Events!

(Event 1) "Roses In The Morning" At June Openshaw's Rose Garden
The first of our rose garden visits this year at the peak of the bloom! Join June and the rest of us for coffee, juice and pastries and talk about roses on a beautiful spring Saturday Morning at the peak of the "spring flush".

It takes YOU AND YOUR ROSES to make this event great! ALL are welcome and invited to enter their home grown roses into the Utah Rose Show. Roses juried by category. This is THE Big Annual Event: The best looking blooms you will ever see shown by the best growers in Utah. Prizes Awarded. Call Barbara Adairfor further information.
