“ROSE DAY IN UTAH!”


The first annual Utah statewide Celebration of Roses sponsored by the Utah Rose Society and Thanksgiving Point Gardens

All Who Are Interested From The General Public Are Hereby Invited To Attend ouf Rose Day Events. Come to ALL of the events (we have timed it so you can), or just ONE or TWO if you would like. FIRST LEG: ($8 Fee) 10 AM till Noon
“Rose Lecture and Slide-show” followed by “Garden Tour with Questions and Answers From the Experts”
(Fee includes Thanksgiving Point Garden Admission)

The lecture and slide-show topic will be types and classes of roses AND growing roses in Utah. The lecture will be presented by Bob Bauer. Bob is a well known Utah professional photographer as well as a great lover of roses and the creator of one of the largest Rose websites in the world, www.rose-roses.com. Immediately following the lecture, we will all adjourn to go on the short walk into the gardens to visit the Rose Garden. Here we will listen to a short presentation about the garden and look at some of the varieties. Members of the Utah Rose Society will be present and identified, and will be able to answer any of your questions regarding rose varieties and rose gardening. Bring all of your questions and we will give you all of the answers! We meet at 10 am at the Thanksgiving Point Garden Center. Directions ToThanksgiving Point Gardens: From the Alpine/Highland exit on I-15, take Clubhouse Drive West, turn right on Garden Drive, go North to the parking lot.

SECOND LEG (Free): 1 PM Until 5 PM “The Big Spring Flush”
Anyone from the general public is encouraged at their leisure to visit one or all of the home gardens of several great local Utah rose gardeners (who are also members of the Utah Rose Society) during the afternoon. No admission charges.

THE GARDENS:

American Fork: Home of Sharon and Alan Fotheringham, 289 W. 1080 N. in American Fork (801)756-4544 From Thanksgiving point go north to the the Alpine/Highland exit on State Road 92. Travel east for 4 miles on sr92 to the light at 6000 West. Turn right and go south apx. 2 ½ miles to 1120 North in Am. Fork. Turn right by the gray and white church on the corner. Go west to the first road that you can turn left on and go down the hill. Turn right and the house is 3 houses down on the left. #289.

Salt Lake City: Home of Bob Bauer and Mary Woodhead, 880 W. 200 South – (801)596-0662 (over 500 varieties of roses). It is an old drugstore on the corner of 9th west and 2nd South in downtown Salt Lake City.-If you are coming from the South, you can take the HOV exit at 4th south off of Interstate 15 from the south if there are 2 or more in your car. Single drivers take the 6th south downtown exit, turn left at 5th South turn left again at 2nd South. Proceed to Ninth West. -If coming from the North, anyone can take the 4th South exit. Proceed west to 9th west. Turn right at the light and you will see the roses on the corner of 9th West and 2nd South.

Bountiful: Home of June Openshaw 460 E. Spring Creek Drive in Bountiful (801) 298-7567 From I-15 take the 2600 S exit (EXIT # 315) in Bountiful. Turn RIGHT (East) onto 2600 S. Continue on 2600 S. 2600 S becomes Orchard Dr. Turn right onto 2200 S. Turn left onto 400 E. Turn right onto Spring Creek Drive. Continue to 460 E. on the right hand side of Spring Creek Drive.

Murray: Home of Brenda Buhler 5394 S. Alpine Drive (240 East ) (801) 262-4815 From I-15, get off at 5300 s. Head east past State St. After State 2nd right is Alpine Drive, turn right. Proceed to number 5394 on right side of the street.

Murray: Home of Roger and Claudia Keddington 735 Silver Shadows Dr. (6440 S) (801) 268-3774 From I-15, get off at 5300 S. Head east and turn right (south) onto State Street. After passing Fashion Place Mall, turn left at 6600 S (E Winchester St). Head east and turn left at 725 E. Turn right at Silver Shadows Drive(6440 S). House is on left with all of the roses.

Taylorsville: Home of Ken and Betty Langeberg 3101 West Ryan Dr (5620 S) (801)965-9721 From I-15, go west on 5300 South approx. four miles to 3200 W. (stop light). Turn south (left) two blocks to 5620 South (= Ryan Dr.). Turn back east (left) two blocks to 3101 W. Ryan Dr. (look for roses on the right).


THIRD LEG:(Free) 5:30 PM Until Dusk “Roses In The Afternoon”
We finish the day at the home garden of Ken and Betty Langeberg for a view of their garden and friendly rose chat, with members of the Utah Rose Society. Bring food for Pot Luck (finger food, appetizers). The general public is welcome. Come and join in! Their address is 3101 West Ryan Drive, Taylorsville, Utah.- See directions above.
